JAMB sets 2020 admission deadline, date for 2021 sales of form to be announced next week

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that all admissions in the nation’s tertiary institutions for the 2020/2021 Academic Session would end by 15th June, 2021.

Speaking during the meeting, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said the  meeting with the institutions was aimed at knowing the level they had reached on the 2020/21 admissions scale and to put necessary machinery in place for the 2021/2022 UTME/DE Registration Exercise,

In his words, “After a robust and insightful deliberation, members collectively agreed that all public universities are expected to finish their admissions on or before 15th May, 2021, while the private universities and all IEIs, polytechnics and COEs would complete theirs at the agreed date of 15th June, 2021.

Prof.Oloyede reminded the stakeholders that the chosen deadlines remained sacrosanct and binding on all institutions as the Board would not tolerate any breaches of the collective decision reached at the meeting.

The JAMB Registrar also disclosed that the Board would announce in a week’s time the commencement date for the sale of application documents for the 2021/2022 Academic Session. We advise candidates to start preparing for their exams using the JAMB CBT COMPUTER SOFTWARE.

Meanwhile, the Board has urged all institutions to adhere strictly to all advisories issued to them on inter/intra-university transfers, foreign inter-university transfers and fresh foreign candidates, change of programmes and institutions and other essential processes related to admission in order to avoid unnecessary bickerings that could endanger the future of innocent candidates and their subsequent mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He added these advisories and procedures were to serve as guides for them on how to handle the various issues as they arose.

Insecurity: When Will Nigeria Itself Be Kidnapped? – Lawyer Mike Ozekhome Asks

Human rights lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, says with the state of kidnapping during the Buhari-led administration, he wonders when Nigeria itself will be abducted.
According to Ozekhome, compared to 214 Chibok schoolgirls missing under former President Goodluck Jonathan, the situation has worsened with 807 school pupils kidnapped by criminals under the Buhari administration.
The human rights lawyer while reacting to the state of kidnappings, said
“What the government does not still seem to understand is that because it has failed to give security and welfare to the Nigerian people as provided for in Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution, ethnic nationalism is fast rising in a way that ethnic groups and the various nationalities in the Nigerian contraption have begun to feel that they need to go the extra mile to protect themselves from ravaging insecurity. That is why I always ask, who is advising this government?
The present ravaging insecurity is what led to the emergence of Amotekun, in the South West and the Eastern Security Network in the South East. There have also mushroomed various local policing militias across the country. It is the failure of the government to provide security that is at the root cause of these defensive measures.
Is Nigeria not being abducted by Boko Haram bandits, herders, kidnappers, armed robbers and terrorists? The scenario is frightening and heart-rending. Let us see Buhari’s ugly tale of the tape: Dapchi, Yobe state. 110 school girls abducted on February 19, 2018. 110 have been released on huge ransom.
Kankara, Katsina state; 340 school children abducted in December, 2020, by about 100 Boko Haram bandits riding motorcycles; Kagara, Niger state. 42 people, who included 27 students, 3 staff members of Government Science Secondary School and 12 of their family members abducted. Then; Zamfara State Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, was their next port of call. About 315 of the 500 boarded students were abducted.
“This country is in a complete mess; worse than ever before. So, when will Nigeria be finally abducted?”

Arteta gives Smith Rowe injury update after Arsenal win at Leicester

Mikel Arteta gave an update on Emile Smith Rowe’s injury after Arsenal’s win at Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Smith Rowe hobbled off in the first half of Arsenal’s 3-1 victory at the King Power Stadium, with Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard brought on as his replacement.

Arteta spoke about the 20-year-old’s condition post-match, expressing his hope that an emerging star won’t be out of action for any length of time.

“It was a muscular injury, he wasn’t feeling very comfortable so we decided to take him out,” said the Spaniard.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad.”

Arteta added on the increased risk of injury caused by this season’s fixture schedule: “It’s insane the number of games and minutes these players are playing without any pre-season or break.”

Smith Rowe will have to be assessed by Arsenal’s medical team before an official timeframe can be given on his recovery, but he could be a doubt for the club’s next Premier League fixture away at Burnley on Saturday.

If he ends up missing that fixture, supporters will hope that the midfielder, who has scored five goals in 22 games this season, can return in time for a Europa League round-of-16 first-leg date with Olympiacos on March 11.

KOULIBALY RECEIVES SEVENTH CAREER RED CARD

The Senegal international was sent off but the Parthenopeans managed to secure all three points at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium

Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Benevento in Sunday’s Serie A game.

The 29-year-old was handed his 16th league start but did not complete the encounter after he was punished for indiscipline.

Notwithstanding Koulibaly receiving a red card at  Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Napoli managed to hold on to their lead in the game to continue in the winning ways after ending their losing run against Granada last time out.

Algeria international Faouzi Ghoulam led the charge for Napoli opening goal as Dries Mertens tucked home his effort in the 34th minute.

After the restart, Benevento pushed for an equalizer, forcing Koulibaly to receive a yellow card as he tried to thwart the attack of the Sorcerers.

Matteo Politano doubled the Parthenopeans’ lead in the 66th minute, pouncing on a loose ball before firing his effort into the back of the net from close range.

With nine minutes before the end of the game, Koulibaly was shown his second yellow card and subsequently sent off after a reckless challenge on Gaetano Letizia.

The 29-year-old has now been sent off seven times in his career, receiving his first red card in 2011 during his time with Metz against Clermont.

Koulibaly also saw a red card during Napoli’s game against Sampdoria in 2014, and against Fiorentina in 2018.

He was sent off twice in 2019 and got a red card when Senegal faced Burkina Faso in 2017 during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Napoli have now moved to the sixth spot on the Serie A table with 43 points from 23 games following their victory over Benevento.

Koulibaly will be expected to miss Napoli’s next league outing against Sassuolo on March 3 while his teammate and Nigeria international Victor Osimhen will look to return to action in the encounter.

The Super Eagles forward suffered head trauma against Atalanta on February 21 but has been cleared of any damages.

Koulibaly has featured 27 times across all competitions for Gennaro Gattuso’s men in the 2020-21 season.
